RF Series Integrated Storage Element

This document describes the RF series Integrated Storage Elements (ISEs), which are disk storage devices using the Digital Storage Architecture (DSA) and the DSSI bus. The guide includes the following:

• General Information: Overview of the RF31/31F, RF35/31T, RF36, RF72, RF73, and RF74 models, including performance features and detailed specifications (capacity, speed, power, environment).
• Theory of Operation: Details on physical components (HDA, drive modules), firmware structure, data protection, and diagnostic tools (POST, DUP server).
• Controls and Indicators: Instructions for setting DSSI node IDs and write-protect modes using operator control panels (OCP) or drive module switches.
• Local Programs: Guide to running internal utilities such as DIRECT, DRVEXR, DRVTST, HISTRY, ERASE, VERIFY, DKUTIL, and PARAMS for maintenance and diagnostic tasks.
• Troubleshooting: Procedures for identifying and responding to failure indications.
• Digital Customer Services: Description of available service plans.
