OpenVMS Alpha V7.1 with Greater Than 1G Memory Needs NPORT BAP

Information Blitz

Order Number: 2370-CR

This document, an Information Blitz from August 1998, addresses a critical configuration issue for OpenVMS Alpha V7.1 systems equipped with more than 1 Gigabyte of memory. The NPORT Bus Addressable Pool (BAP) fails to initialize correctly in these configurations if specific SYSGEN parameters (NPAGBAPxxx) are not manually set, as the necessary AUTOGEN/FEEDBACK process does not run automatically during installations or upgrades. Failure to configure this leads to the error '%PNx0, Insufficient Non-paged Pool for Initialization' and potential system or cluster hangs. The document provides the specific formulas and steps to calculate and update these parameters in MODPARAMS.DAT to ensure system stability, along with commands to verify if the BAP has been initialized correctly.
