Errors from Oracle 8.0.4.x with Digital UNIX and EV6 under heavy load

This Information Blitz (2610-CR) serves as a technical notice regarding a fatal system error affecting customers running Oracle 8.0.4.x on DIGITAL UNIX V4.0E after an upgrade to EV6 CPUs. The issue only manifests under heavy system loads, such as those caused by Oracle or SAP.

Compaq recommends the following: - Defer upgrades to EV6 CPUs if running a heavy load configuration until a fix is released. - Workaround: Revert to the previously used EV56 CPU boards.

For customers already experiencing this crash, an IPMT case should be opened to collect diagnostic data, including: - Core files - Firmware and hardware revisions for the TL6 boards - Binary errlogs and /var/adm/message files - Processor counts and the output of # psrinfo -v
