Unix Workaround for EV6 PAL Code Error

This document addresses a critical issue causing a fatal Oracle error (ORA 600 [512]) on Compaq GS60 and GS140 systems running DIGITAL UNIX V4.0E. A joint investigation by Compaq and Oracle identified a flaw in the EV6 PAL code. While new, corrected PAL code is in development, Compaq has released a temporary software workaround for DIGITAL UNIX V4.0E. Customers needing this must contact Compaq Services and reference the 'UNIX Workaround for the EV6 PAL Code Error'. Implementation requires DIGITAL UNIX V4.0E Patch Kit 1 (BL1) to be installed, and the workaround must be removed once the final corrected PAL code is installed.
