This Information Blitz alerts users of Digital UNIX V4.0E about a software defect in 'dtlogin'. The issue occurs when a user name is exactly eight characters long because 'dtlogin' fails to append a null terminator to the user name string. This can lead to login failures if the subsequent byte in memory is non-zero. A patch is available through the standard IPMT escalation process, and the fix will be included in the upcoming Patch Kit 3 for Digital UNIX V4.0E.
