OpenVMS ODS-1 Users Need to Install VAX ODS1 Kits to Get Y2K Changes

This document addresses a Y2K compatibility issue for OpenVMS VAX users utilizing the ODS-1 file format. The problem stems from incompatible date conversion algorithms between OpenVMS and the legacy PDP-11/RSX-11 methodology. Specifically, the RSX-11 ASCII-based date encoding (DDMMMYYHHMMSS) does not correctly handle years beyond 1999 without an update. To resolve potential mount errors and date attribute issues after January 1, 2000, users are instructed to install specific ODS-1 kits (VAXODS101071, VAXODS101062, or VAXODS101U2055). Note that ODS-1 is not supported on OpenVMS Alpha systems.
