Adaptec 1742A Not Compatible with OSF/1

This document outlines FCO PB22H-0002, which addresses a firmware incompatibility between the Adaptec 1742A SCSI controller and the OSF/1 operating system on specific DECpc-150 AXP systems. Systems within certain serial number ranges running NT or OpenVMS that need to transition to OSF/1 require a firmware upgrade to version 'G.2'. The procedure involves:

1. Recording existing boot settings.
2. Physically replacing the EPROM chip on the controller board (part #23-681E6-00).
3. Performing a console firmware update.
4. Running the EISA Configuration Utility (ECU).

Strict electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions are mandated throughout the installation process to prevent hardware damage.
