This document is an installation guide for the PowerGrade upgrade kit for the Prioris HX 6000 Server. It details the process of upgrading from one to two 200 MHz Pentium Pro processors with either 256KB or 512KB cache. The guide covers:

  • Preparation: Necessary tools, kit contents, and pre-installation tasks such as BIOS updates and enabling the on-board VGA controller.
  • Hardware Installation: Step-by-step instructions for removing the existing CPU module, installing the new CPU chip and voltage regulator module, checking speed settings via jumpers, and reassembling the server.
  • Configuration: Using the System Configuration Utility (SCU) to configure the server after the upgrade.
  • Troubleshooting: Procedures for using a crisis recovery diskette if a BIOS update fails.

Digital Equipment Corporation recommends that this hardware upgrade be performed by an Authorized Digital Service Provider due to the sensitive nature of CPU installation.
