MicroVAX 3100 Model 95 to Model 96 CPU Upgrade

This document outlines the procedure for upgrading a MicroVAX 3100 Model 95 system to a Model 96, which involves replacing the CPU module with a KA56 module. The guide covers the full process, including:

• Preparation: System software backup, OpenVMS version verification (5.5–2H4, 6.1, or higher), and running diagnostics.
• Hardware Installation: Detailed, step-by-step instructions (with figures) for removing the enclosure, drive mounting shelves, and the existing CPU module, followed by installing the new KA56 CPU module and reassembling the system.
• Post-Installation: Applying new labels and the medallion, reinstalling system software, and completing mandatory return forms.
• Return Procedure: Instructions for returning the original CPU and memory modules to Digital Equipment Corporation to avoid penalty charges.
