Bioelectric Signal Sorter

Order Number: 12-35

This document describes the JULIA program (DECUS No. 12-35), designed for the automatic sorting and time analysis of biological action potentials on a PDP-12 computer. The program uses a mean-square-error comparison against template units to identify and sort incoming signals, with semi-automatic subtraction procedures to handle interference potentials from simultaneously-firing units. It provides three types of histograms for analysis: simple interval versus time, interval occurrence probability, and joint interval. The documentation includes hardware requirements, loading and operational procedures, instructions for using Phase 1 (unit selection) and Phase 2 (special unit sorting), data storage/retrieval, and calibration/editing facilities.
