DECchip 21164-AA Functional Specification

The DECchip 21164-AA, also known as the EV5 CPU, is a high-performance, CMOS-5 (.5 micron) super-scalar, super-pipelined implementation of the Alpha Architecture. This document, Revision 1.9 (December 1992), outlines the micro-architecture, external interfaces, cache organization, PALcode and internal processor register (IPR) specifications, as well as reset, initialization, error handling, and testability features for the chip.
