OpenVMS VAX RTL Mathematics (MTH$) Manual

This document is a technical reference manual for the MTH$ mathematics facility within the OpenVMS Run-Time Library for VAX hardware. It is intended for system and application programmers.

The manual is structured into two main parts:

  • Scalar MTH$ Routines: Provides guidelines and a comprehensive reference section for scalar mathematics routines (such as trigonometric, exponential, and complex number functions) supported in OpenVMS VAX Version 6.0. It details entry point naming conventions, calling conventions (CALL and JSB), and condition/error handling.
  • Vector MTH$ Routines: Provides guidelines and reference information for vector-optimized routines, including Basic Linear Algebra Subroutines (BLAS) Level 1, First Order Linear Recurrence (FOLR) routines, vector versions of scalar routines, and fast-vector math routines.

The document also includes examples of how to call these routines from various programming languages, including VAX MACRO, BASIC, COBOL, FORTRAN, Pascal, PL/I, and Ada, as well as appendices listing rarely used routines and vector entry point tables.
