This document introduces EDUCOMP's Time-shared Operating System (ETOS) for the PDP8. It outlines the system's objective to provide a multi-user, time-sharing environment that allows up to 16 users to operate as if they had a stand-alone 64K byte PDP8. The paper examines the history of computer operating modes—including batch, real-time, and interactive systems—and argues how ETOS overcomes limitations like poor peripheral usage, lack of file security, and inefficient memory management to fulfill modern computer utility requirements.
