VAX Disk Striping Driver

This document introduces the VAX Disk Striping Driver for VMS, a software solution designed to eliminate I/O bottlenecks by enabling parallel data transfer across multiple standard DSA disk drives. It allows a set of physical disks to appear as a single, larger, and faster logical device to applications. Key benefits include increased I/O data rates that scale linearly with added hardware, transparent operation without needing application rewrites, and automatic load balancing. The driver supports high-bandwidth applications on various VAX platforms (from MicroVAX to VAX 9000) and includes data protection features, such as compatibility with VAX Volume Shadowing and VAXsimPLUS.
