The ESE20 is a high-performance I/O subsystem designed to boost system performance in I/O-intensive VAX and VAXcluster environments. By utilizing 120MB of DRAM configured as a nonvolatile, DSA-compliant disk device, the ESE20 provides substantially faster access speeds than traditional magnetic disks, effectively eliminating I/O bottlenecks. It is designed for seamless integration into existing storage hierarchies without requiring operating system or software modifications. The ESE20 features a built-in Data Retention System for nonvolatile data security during power failures, dual-level error correction (Hamming ECC and Reed-Solomon ECC) for high data integrity, and support from VAXsimPLUS for failure prediction. It is packaged in a 60-inch-high storage array cabinet supporting one or two ESE20 units.
