StorageWorks HSJ40 Subsystems

This document describes Digital's StorageWorks HSJ40 subsystem packages, which offer preconfigured, modular, and high-performance storage solutions for CI (Computer Interconnect) clusters. The HSJ40 array controller enables RAID capabilities, supports up to 36 devices via SCSI-2 buses, and allows for flexible scaling from entry-level to high-capacity storage configurations. Key features include:

• Modular Flexibility: Preconfigured packages (SW510, SW511, SW512, SW810, SW811, SW812) allow for easy customization, growth, and mixing of different disk drive types.
• High Availability: Supports redundant controllers, power supplies, and battery backup units, as well as host-based Volume Shadowing (RAID 1).
• Scalability: Capacities can be expanded significantly by adding building blocks or extra shelves, with maximum capacities reaching over 225 GB in tall cabinets.
• Performance: Features controller-based RAID 0 (striping) and optimized I/O load balancing for high-speed data access.
