TU81-Plus

The TU81-Plus is a high-density, 6250/1600 bpi magnetic tape drive that offers significant performance improvements over its predecessor, the original TU81. Key features include a 256-Kbyte cache buffer for optimized data streaming, adaptive speed control for efficient disk backup and data archiving, and broad compatibility with VAXBI, UNIBUS, and Q-bus systems. Designed for reliability and ease of use, it features a short tape path, simple manual loading, and extensive built-in diagnostics. It also aligns with Digital’s Storage Architecture (DSA) for enhanced throughput and offers investment protection through upgrade kits for existing TU81 or TA81 systems.
