HSC High Performance Software, Version 8.3

This document is a Software Product Description (SPD) for Digital Equipment Corporation's HSC High Performance Software, Version 8.3.

Key information includes:

• Functionality: This software acts as the intelligent mass-storage server component for the Hierarchical Storage Controller (HSC) product family (models HSC40, 60, 65, 70, 90, and 95). It manages I/O requests for disk and tape units, providing features such as volume shadowing, error detection and recovery, optimized device management, and volume backup.
• Compatibility: Version 8.3 introduces new support for SCSI tape devices, specific RZ-series disk devices, and enhanced I/O performance for the K.scsi data channel module. It is intended for use with OpenVMS (V5.5-2 or higher for SCSI; V5.4-2 or higher for non-SCSI configurations).
• System Requirements: The software requires specific data channel modules and is supported within VMScluster, VAX System V, or ULTRIX configurations.
• Important Limitations: It does not operate on the HSC50 model or 36-bit systems. Digital makes no warranties regarding the operability of non-specified or non-qualified device configurations.
• Included Utilities: The package includes the SCTSAV utility for saving/retaining custom parameters, the SETSHO utility for configuration display, and the VTDPY utility for dynamic system monitoring.
