This document outlines a proposal for a performance modeling project for the Jupiter CPU. The project aims to understand current machine performance, improve the accuracy of performance prediction models, and identify bottlenecks in the EBOX. The proposed approach includes both hardware and microcode changes to enhance performance, with a specific focus on optimizing slow instruction classes like BLT, Byte, Floating point, PUSHJ/POPJ, String, and XCT. The memorandum also emphasizes the importance of evaluating all changes from a system-wide viewpoint and suggests forming a dedicated working group to oversee these optimizations. Appendices include a bibliography of related documents and detailed instruction timing test results.
