This document outlines the procedure to update the firmware on Digital Alpha VME 5/352 and 5/480 single board computers. The firmware, which is stored in FEPROM, controls the PALcode, console interface, and boot sequence. The update process involves preparing the system by shutting down the operating system, enabling updates via a DIP switch, and setting specific environment variables. The firmware update itself can be performed using either a CD-ROM or by copying files to a network server for MOP or BOOTP booting. Post-update tasks include restoring environment variables, disabling the update DIP switch, and power-cycling the system.
