Volume Shadowing for OpenVMS

Overview

HP Volume Shadowing for OpenVMS is a System Integrated Product (SIP) that provides RAID Level 1 storage strategy (disk mirroring) to ensure high data availability on Integrity server, Alpha, and VAX systems. It prevents data loss from device failures or media deterioration.

• Shadow Sets: Maintains redundant data copies across two or three disk members, ensuring data remains accessible if one member fails.
• Transparency: The software treats shadow sets as a single virtual unit, making the shadowing process invisible to users and applications.
• High Availability: Supports clusterwide shadowing, enabling data protection across multiple systems in an OpenVMS Cluster.
• Minicopy and Minimerge: Advanced technologies (including Host-Based Minimerge) that reduce I/O overhead and system downtime when restoring or backing up shadow set members.
