Overview
HP Volume Shadowing for OpenVMS is a System Integrated Product (SIP) that provides RAID Level 1 storage strategy (disk mirroring) to ensure high data availability on Integrity server, Alpha, and VAX systems. It prevents data loss from device failures or media deterioration.
Key Features
- Shadow Sets: Maintains redundant data copies across two or three disk members, ensuring data remains accessible if one member fails.
- Transparency: The software treats shadow sets as a single virtual unit, making the shadowing process invisible to users and applications.
- High Availability: Supports clusterwide shadowing, enabling data protection across multiple systems in an OpenVMS Cluster.
- Minicopy and Minimerge: Advanced technologies (including Host-Based Minimerge) that reduce I/O overhead and system downtime when restoring or backing up shadow set members.
- Flexibility: Supports various disk types, including DSA, Fibre Channel, and SCSI, and allows adding/removing members without interrupting operations.
Requirements
- Requires OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.2-2 or 7.3 and later.
- Supports specific controller and disk drive hardware, with detailed firmware requirements for certain devices.
Licensing
- Distributed and installed with the OpenVMS operating system.
- Licenses are available on a per-processor or per-disk basis, depending on the architecture and platform.
