PDP-8/9 Interface

System Description

Order Number: DEC-10-IACB-D

The DA10 interface is an optional unit that allows for the interconnection of the I/O bus from a PDP-10 processor to the I/O bus of either a PDP-8 or a PDP-9 processor. Because the three systems operate with different word lengths and I/O signals, the DA10 performs necessary data assembly and conversion: it assembles 12-bit (PDP-8) or 18-bit (PDP-9) words into 36-bit words for the PDP-10, and divides 36-bit words from the PDP-10 into the smaller required word lengths for the target processor.

This manual provides comprehensive documentation for the DA10, including: * Operation and Programming: Describes the indicator and power control panels, device selection methods for each processor, and programming notes for data transfer operations. * Installation: Details power, environmental, and space requirements, as well as specific wiring and cabling procedures for the three processor types. * Theory of Operation: Explains the functional and detailed operation of data transfers in both directions, along with self-check diagnostic operations and power-up/initialization sequences. * Maintenance: Outlines preventive and corrective maintenance procedures, module troubleshooting, and includes a spare parts list.
